I just started working with CSS grid. I’m still figuring some things out but excited by the possibilities it opens up.
However, I’m a bit annoyed with myself for not getting onboard sooner. I ignored grid partly out out of tool and framework fatigue, and partly because I thought that what I had was good enough.
To keep things in perspective, here are some other things I did as a young webmaster that I thought were good enough.
- I coded in Notepad
- I laid out pages with
<table>
tags - I added transparent spacer.gif images to force-size those tables
- I put iframes inside of table cells just to display content
- I designed websites as single images and sliced them up
- I used image maps for navigation
If I can get from tables to floats to flexbox, I can get from flexbox to grid.
