In defence of the company group chat

The “I used to have one inbox and now I have dozens” argument against work chat apps forgets that we now have incredible visibility over what goes on inside our organisations. Slack is distracting, but it’s not without benefit. We share so much knowledge just because it’s passing through the channels and not stuck in someone’s inbox or a boardroom.

Think about how empowering that is for a junior employee. Five years ago you had to be copied on the right email chains to know what was going on. Now everyone has a view of the big picture.
