I’ve had the wild idea to run all of the streets within the London Borough of Hackney. This isn’t a new year’s resolution, and I’m not a runner. I’m just posting here in hopes of some of that sweet accountability.

The best source I could find lists 1,151 streets in Hackney. However, some streets are counted multiple times. (As far as I can tell, this is due to postcode coverage.) I filtered that list down to 995 unique street names within the borough’s perimeter. My bet/hope is that the psychological need to complete things — and the satisfaction of checking items off lists — will be more motivational than just the nagging voice in my head that knows I should exercise more.

The only rule so far is that I need to run the majority of a street for it to count. I’ll try for 100% coverage where practical but it makes cohesive routes difficult in some cases. That said, I won’t count a street if I just travel a small section of it.

I’ll try to remember to post an update here in a few months. In the meantime, if you’re interested, you can follow along on Twitter.
